Minnesota farmer: Do you want to build a (50-foot) snowman?

Have you had enough of winter 2014? At this rate, Old Man W seems intent on freezing his way into spring, which is just over two weeks away.

In Huntsville, we’ve had our fun. Singing songs from the Oscar-winning animated Disney flick, “Frozen,” particularly Best Song, “Let it Go,” and making wimpy southern snowmen.

Seriously, enough is enough. In North Alabama, we have relished the run of “shorts-weather” weekends, only to have our spirits dashed (and innards frozen) by plummeting temps and wind chills a day later.

Our snowmen, built by children of all ages when snow fell early last month, have long since melted into oblivion. That’s okay. Greg Novak of Gilman, Minn., built the “Grand Daddy” of all snowmen for all of us to enjoy.

According to WCCO-TV, Novak created ‘Grand Daddy,’ in its 50 ft. splendor, feat  by using a skid loader and silo blower to pile up the snow. As each layer froze, the fencing was moved up to create the next part of the snowman’s body. The construction took two months.

He used a garbage pail for the nose and lids for the buttons.

While it’s cold in Huntsville, it’s still below zero in Novak’s neck of the woods, where he and other Central Minnesota residents are still buried under 4.5 ft. of snow.

And if winter continues on its same track, chances are remnants of Granddaddy will still be around come July.

But let’s be honest: As impressive as Grand daddy is, most hope he’ll be little more than a puddle by summer. Sorry, Olav.
